The effect of processing parameters on Ultrasonic degassing

The paper describes studies on the effect of high intensity ultrasonic treatment on degassing of AA7075.Different ultrasonic parameters, such as frequency, power, melt temperature and processing time were tested and their influence on degassing efficiency evaluated. In order to measure the density of the samples, a Reduced Pressure Test (RPT) was performed. The experimental results suggest electric power, melt temperature and processing time strongly affect the sample density and that the ultrasonic frequency has no considerable effect on hydrogen removal. It appears that applied power is the most important factor in hydrogen removal. The results of this research could have a significant impact on the aluminium casting which is prone to porosity formation.
