Grain refinement of AA7075 alloy under combined magnetic fields

Combining static and pulsed magnetic fields for their suitability to grain refine AA7075 alloy examined which produced more refined microstructure compared to the use of single pulsed magnetic field. The main factors affecting grain refinement under this combination are the vibration intensity and the pulsed discharge voltage; the former being characterized by the static magnetic field and the latter being affected by the pulsed discharge frequency. Grain size decreased as expected with increasing static magnetic field but grain refinement was further enhanced when the pulsed discharge frequency was equal to the intrinsic frequency of the liquid resonance vibration.
